Consortium Holdings is getting ready to unveil the group’s 19th venture, a brand-new hotel called Baby Grand, located across from the historic Hotel del Coronado.
Previously, What Now San Diego reported on CH Projects, led by founder Arsalun Tafazoli, getting ready for a complete overhaul of the La Avenida Inn property at 1315 Orange Avenue. The overhaul will feature a yet-to-be-named Greek/Mediterranean-inspired brasserie on site. Now that the $17 million, 31-room hotel is getting closer to completion, currently set for early 2025, more details have emerged, including specifics regarding the restaurant concepts.
CH Projects have partnered with Brooklyn-based Post Company to open Baby Grand, according to Eater San Diego. Together, the two juggernauts created the Lafayette Hotel & Club, which has gained national recognition even before its massive remodel. Now the two are coming together again with an immersive concept that will turn a former parking lot into a wild jungle scene, with palm trees, climbing vines, rock formations, and a two-story waterfall as the backdrop for an all-day restaurant and bar, which still has yet to be named.
What has been announced is the addition of two new concepts that will debut at Baby Grand. While both are unnamed, Consortium Holdings and Post Company will unveil an oyster bar and lounge that draws inspiration from late 50s vibes with 80s glam, located at the entrance to Fallen Empire, which will be next to an interactive sculpture in the corner of the lobby. Customers can expect mirrored walls, crushed velvet banquettes, and a mosaic floor with an undersea theme. Finally, the new hotel will feature a new omakase-style restaurant on the property.
