The long-awaited restaurant moving into the Coronado Ferry Landing finally has a name and a rough opening date. Maiden Coronado will open early next year, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.
The second restaurant is set to open in a massive 12,000 square-foot space with a 4,300 square-foot wraparound patio, operated by hospitality group Social Syndicate. The Port of San Diego gave Social Syndicate approval for the restaurant in 2024, unnamed at the time. Based in San Diego, Social Syndicate, owned by Brendan Huffman, Mina Desiderio, Mark Huber and Hoffman Leung, currently operates 10 ventures including The Rabbit Hole in Normal Heights and La Dona in Ocean Beach.
The restaurant will feature Baja-inspired seafood, craft cocktails and local beers, drawing from the group’s other concept, Monarch Ocean Pub. “We want it to feel elevated yet humble, with fresh coastal flavors, approachable dishes, and a welcome atmosphere for the community,” Social Syndicate CEO Brendan Huffman said in a press release when ground broke on the property in early December 2025.
The restaurant’s construction marks the last stretch in a decades-long journey for Ferry Landing Associates, who entered into a 40-year lease in 1997 on the condition that they must build two restaurants on the property by 2008. The first concept, Il Fornaio, was completed in 1999. Now, 27 years later, the end is in sight, and what a sight it will be to behold, with views of the San Diego skyline and Coronado Bridge.
“This restaurant is going to have one of the best views in all of San Diego,” Coronado Mayor John Duncan said in a press release. “It’s been decades since we’ve been waiting for this.”
