Ono Hawaiian BBQ, a family-owned restaurant chain known for its authentic Hawaiian-style plates, is getting ready to open another San Diego location with a new site coming to Vista at 1711 University Dr.

Previously, What Now San Diego reported on the fast-casual eatery making its San Diego debut with new locations coming to Escondido, Carmel Mountain, and Clairemont. While none of these sites have opened, the Escondido and Clairemont sites are pending inspection, so they should open soon. Now that Ono Hawaiian BBQ has made some progress with the opening of its first San Diego stores, the company will shift its focus back up to North County with a new location moving into the former home of Rubio’s in the North County Square. It’s unclear when this location will open, but considering the company is working on several locations in the area, this one will likely open towards the end of the year.

Ono Hawaiian BBQ has multiple locations across California and Arizona, each of which emphasizes the “Aloha Spirit” by delivering flavorful, comforting meals in a welcoming atmosphere. Their commitment to quality is evident in their house-made Katsu and Teriyaki sauces, prepared fresh daily. Ono Hawaiian BBQ’s menu includes plate lunches, aloha plates, and family meals. Popular entrees are Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, Chicken Katsu, Kalua Pork, and Island White Fish. Meals typically come with rice, macaroni salad, and a variety of vegetables. They also offer mini meals, keiki (kids) meals, and a variety of sides and appetizers. Vegetarian options and lighter portions are available for those with specific dietary preferences.

This will be an excellent location for a new Ono Hawaiian BBQ, considering it’s part of North County Square, a major shopping center in Vista. The center features over 600,000 square feet of retail space and receives approximately 4.4 million visits annually, according to LoopNet. It is strategically located off Highway 78 at Sycamore Avenue, between Interstate 15 and Interstate 5. Co-tenants include Super Wal-Mart, Target, Ross, Old Navy, and Michaels. The nearby Vista Industrial Park, home to over 800 companies, brings a strong daytime population. With high visibility, freeway access, and a dedicated food court, this is a strong location for Ono Hawaiian BBQ.
