The team behind Pacific Beach Fish Shop is expanding with a new location in Oceanside at 236 South Coast Highway.
The San Diego-based seafood restaurant group, known for its customizable seafood plates, tacos, and sandwiches, has secured the former Ryes and Grind restaurant space at the corner of South Coast Highway and Michigan Avenue in downtown Oceanside, first reported by SanDiegoVille. This marks the brand’s fourth active outpost, joining existing locations in Pacific Beach, Point Loma, and Encinitas. The new Oceanside location will bring the brand’s signature offerings and coastal atmosphere to a growing area already home to independent restaurants, breweries, and coffee shops.
What Now San Diego reached out to co-owner/ partner Eric Leitstein to confirm this information, who says: “Yes, it is true we recently signed the lease at 236 S. Coast Hwy 101 Oceanside. We do not have an opening date. We are hopeful we can get it open sometime this September.”
Since its launch in Pacific Beach in 2010, Pacific Beach Fish Shop has grown under the ownership of Doug Sondomowicz and Billy Ramirez, with Larry Alva serving as Director of Operations. The restaurant operates on a casual, counter-service model where customers choose a fish, seasoning, and preparation style, with options to have it served as a salad, sandwich, or taco. The restaurant also features a glass seafood case, rotating specials, local craft beer, and a bring-your-own-wine policy with a nominal corkage fee. The group’s most recent location, the Point Loma Fish Shop, opened in early 2018. This new outpost will join a list of other locations that have been well-received for their affordability, dog-friendly patios, and community engagement.
“A favorite of locals and visitors to San Diego, the menu at Fish Shop is uniquely tailored, offering a boatload of fresh seafood selections to choose from,” according to the company’s website. “Come in and build your own taco, sandwich, salad, or plate by selecting your cut of fish, sides, and marinade. Diners can dive into some of the Fish Shop favorites, such as our award-winning TKO taco, grilled mahi-mahi marinated in our Fish Shop seasoning, topped with our tropical mango salsa, or the Coconut Shrimp coated in house-made shredded coconut batter, deep-fried golden and crispy.”
