On March 6th, co-founders of Paru Tea Bar Amy Truong and Lani Gobaleza shared on Instagram, “🔑 IT’S OFFICIAL! We just signed the lease for our second and flagship location on Girard Avenue in La Jolla.” Paru’s second shop will open next door to Haru Sushi.
At the end of last month, the tea bar’s second space was under construction, and the company has provided updates and thanks for assistance with their Kickstarter Campaign over social media. SanDiegoVille reports the La Jolla location will open as a retail shop collaboration with Sunset Projects owners Miki Iwasaki and Jess Falstad. The shop will have a tasting room and art gallery.
Truong and Gobaleza first met just over a decade ago while studying abroad together in Japan. From there everything fell into place. Today, Paru specializes in loose leaf teas, matcha, and tisanes. The company’s website elaborates: “most of our collection is sourced from family-owned tea gardens in East Asia and Southeast Asia. We are also makers of modern tea blends.” Currently at the Point Loma location, you can purchase items from the loose leaf tea collection as well as carry-out drinks. The company offers seasonal tea collections to select from.
According to the announcement post, the owners hope to have Paru La Jolla open by the end of the summer. Follow Paru’s social media for continued updates on their La Jolla expansion.
