Puros Tacos Cabrones is gearing up for the grand opening of their debut restaurant in National City. The new business is putting final touches on their 1100-square-foot space at the base of The Kimball apartment complex.
Owner Abe De La Torre tells What Now San Diego they’re in the process of tweaking the menu ahead of their grand opening later this month and adding design elements reminiscent of the Mexican revolution era.
We can also expect more from Puros Tacos Cabrones in the near future. De La Torre expects to have three locations open by next year and five locations in the next three years.
De La Torre recently relocated to San Diego from Chicago with no immediate plans to open a restaurant. “Instead of learning to surf, relax, write books about real estate investing, I decided to open a taco shop,” shares De La Torre.
After getting to know the community in National City, Puros Tacos Cabrones will expand their menu past tacos to include elevated Mexican cuisine with a mix of street foods familiar to the area. Expect to find traditional options that you would find in small communities in the Southern and Central areas of Mexico like tostadas, posole, adobada, as well as a breakfast menu.
Putting his real estate know-how to good use, De La Torre has already scouted out their next location in Hillcrest. The Hillcrest spot will highlight the urban ambiance and play to locals’ particular tastes with menu items like California burritos and carne asada fries. The location will lean more towards a Mexican sports bar, serving Mexican beer, wine, and Micheladas.
Puros Tacos Cabrones in National City is currently in their soft opening phase and plan to open with regular daily hours September 9th. Their location in Hillcrest is in its early phase of planning and an opening date is yet to be announced. Get to know Puros Tacos Cabrones by following their Instagram.
