Scoops La Jolla, a popular ice cream shop in one area of San Diego, is getting ready to expand to new neighborhoods. This time, it will open a location in Ocean Beach at 4944 Newport Avenue.
The company’s third location, to be called Scoops Ocean Beach, is set to move into a vacant space between Wildsong Theatre & Arts Collective and Breeza Beachwear, likely in the former home of The Electric Chair, according to an announcement made by the company last month on social media. Owner Nader Abu Hamdan tells What Now San Diego that this location is expected to open in Spring 2025, hopefully in late March or early April 2025. Like its original locations, Scoops Ocean Beach will serve Van Leeuwen Dairy and Vegan Ice Cream, homemade crepes, milkshakes, bowls, coffees, and more.
This is a massive achievement for the Abu Hamdan family, who joined the La Jolla Shores community back in 2018. Scoops La Jolla takes pride in serving delicious ice cream made from scratch. The company’s Classic scoops are carefully crafted with fresh milk, cream, cane sugar, and egg yolks, while our Vegan scoops feature a harmonious blend of cashew milk, organic coconut milk, organic extra virgin coconut oil, organic cane sugar, pure cocoa butter, and organic carob bean. Soon, Obecians will get their hands on this delicious Van Leeuwen Ice Cream handcrafted in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
“Scoops Ocean Beach is a family-owned and operated ice cream shop serving a delightful selection of classic, vegan, and innovative flavors made with high-quality ingredients and a commitment to freshness,” Abu Hamdan tells What Now San Diego. “Whether you’re craving traditional favorites like chocolate or vanilla or looking to try something more adventurous like Honeycomb or Brown Sugar Cookie Dough Chunk, Scoops has something to satisfy every sweet tooth. Beyond ice cream, Scoops OB offers fresh homemade crepes made in-house, as well as shakes, local coffee, and other delicious offerings.”
