There’s a buzz in Vista as Wild West Mead Company gets its start. The craft meadery is setting up its new home in an industrial business park.

Michael “Mead Mike” Weidemann tells What Now San Diego that along with brother and co-founder Keith Weidemann, they’ve been contract brewing and producing small-batch and brewery collaborations since 2017. Since moving to San Diego from Texas, their professional background in electrical engineering brought them into contact with various breweries in North County.

Now the Texas brothers will bring together their construction know-how along with their passion for mead to open their own production facility and taproom.

Wild West Mead will debut with a core four meads, plus 4-8 rotating experimental blends using a variety of different kinds of honey, and fruit-based and seasonal options. The meadery also intends to continue collaborations with other mead and craft beer businesses operating in North County.

“We try to push the envelope with ingredients. We’re known for our Jalapeno Cornbread Braggot. It’s a half-beer and half-mead style that we collaborate with a brewery on. It’s like biting into a slice of jalapeno cornbread,” shares Weidemann.

Wild West Mead Company is in the early stages of planning its new space and expects to be ready to debut by Summer 2023. Get to know Wild West Mead and stay updated on the Vista taproom by following on Instagram
