Sessions by the Bay is working through the permitting and approval process with National City to become the area’s first cannabis consumption lounge. While the concept is in its early stages of planning, it is proposed to debut in a nearly 13,000-square-foot site on the waterfront side of Interstate 5.
The venue is said to feature a retail dispensary storefront and an ancillary consumption lounge. While the concept may sound unique, the idea is catching on. What Now Los Angeles reports a cannabis-positive restaurant and lounge called Antidote is in the works in West Hollywood.
Architectural and design partner Heleo shares on their social media, “Our proposal for a cannabis retail / consumption experience project “Sessions by the Bay” has gotten through its second to last stage of approval! Once approved by city council it would be slated as the first cannabis consumption lounge in San Diego. The complex also proposes retail, a social equity center, and a series of immersive and interactive art exhibits, a first of its kind.”
Owner Pearl Ayon shares to What Now San Diego their lounge will offer food and refreshments with some restrictions. “No alcohol is permitted to be sold at lounges, so all drinks would be non-alcoholic. However, we will have cannabis-infused drinks and edibles available,” shares Ayon.
It’s too early to determine an opening timeline for Sessions by the Bay. The business is still in the process of acquiring all necessary permits and approvals by National City before they begin work at the site. Stay tuned as we continue to cover updates on the project.
