San Francisco’s Legendary Fun Run Is Almost Here!
Since 1912, Bay to Breakers has been taking runners through the streets of San Francisco. The event calls on participants to “show up weird”, dressed in costumes of their choice. Participants range from those in minimal athletic wear to others in elaborate costumes, not to mention the crowds that will be cheering all along the way.
The main event is the 12K run, which starts at the Embarcadero neighborhood near the San Francisco Bay and ends at the Great Highway, where the roar of the breakers echoes along Ocean Beach. On the journey between the start and the finish line, runners will pass through nine of SF’s incredible neighborhoods.
Participants seeking an extra challenge can opt for the Breakers Bonus 3K, extending the run to 15K. The finishers will receive an additional medal and a celebratory beer at the finish line festival’s beer garden.
Grab the Gang, Dress Up and Run!
Bay to Breakers also offers a chance to run with a team. The Centipede run features groups of 13 – 15 runners connected in a line. They will run the entire length of 12k and receive all the runner perks.
Another option is to run as a team, whether as a running club, a group of office colleagues, or just friends. Participating in the team run is sure to promote group cohesion and collective enjoyment.
Get In the Spirit Before the Run
Bay to Breakers also features a pair of high-energy pre-run events before runners show up at the starting line on the main event day.
The first is the shakeout run that will take place on May 15. Join fellow runners at the Stonestown Shakeout Run, catch the vibe at the post-run party, and win cool prizes. Don’t forget to RSVP. Only limited spots are available.
Runner’s Night: Giants Vs Athletics is a pre-race celebration that takes place at Oracle Park. The running community will come together to have a night of excitement and lasting memories.
