San Francisco’s longtime Tex-Mex spot Cadillac Bar and Grill has permanently closed, ending a decades-long run in the city’s Mid-Market neighborhood. Michael Rodriguez, owner and operator of the restaurant, recently shared the closure news with an effective date at the end of 2025. Rodriguez cited rising costs and declining foot traffic in the Mid-Market area as key factors behind the decision.

Cadillac Bar & Grill Closes

Located at 44 9th St, San Francisco, CA, Cadillac Bar and Grill has been a local favorite since the late 1980s, known for its authentic Tex-Mex cuisine and lively atmosphere. The restaurant was also known for its bar scene and its location near Twitter’s former Mid-Market headquarters.

The owner of the restaurant, Michael Rodriguez, announced the closure and said, “After much reflection, I’ve decided that the end of 2025 was the right time to close this chapter.”

He added that the restaurant first opened near the Moscone Center decades ago.

“The restaurant later found its home in Mid-Market—an area that, over time, became increasingly difficult to sustain,” said Rodriguez.

In a social media post, the team confirmed that the restaurant officially closed at the end of 2025.

In the announcement post, the team behind the restaurant informed that it had closed at the end of 2025. The closure news was made public in January 2026 after operations had already ended.

The restaurant served Mexican tacos, burritos, salads, ribs, desserts, and refreshing cocktails. Some of the recommended items on the menu were steak fajitas, Baja fish tacos, and steak quesadillas with sour cream and pico de gallo.

Financial Pressure Leads to Closure

After years of financial pressure and rising costs, Rodriguez decided to close the restaurant.

He said, “We were thriving up until 2019, when Covid devastated the city and its hospitality industry.”

Twitter’s departure from the building also triggered the closure decision. The restaurant owner explained, “Unfortunately, our neighborhood never fully recovered, and the departure of Twitter from our building further accelerated the challenges. Through it all, I persevered—outlasting every other restaurant that tried to survive in this area.”

The owner and operator of the restaurant expressed gratitude to customers and community members for their continued support over the years.

“I want to sincerely thank everyone who supported us over the decades—our loyal regulars, our guests, and all those who shared wonderful meals and lasting memories with us. It has truly been an honor,” said Rodriguez.

The sudden closure of Cadillac Bar and Grill surprised its loyal customers and fans. The closure brings an end to Cadillac Bar and Grill’s long-running role in San Francisco’s dining scene.
