It appears the coffee roaster's long-awaited cafe is in the works.

AKA Coffee — formerly known as Supersonic Coffee — is presumably opening a retail cafe on Alice Street. The Oakland-based roaster has been around since 2014, helmed by coffee extraordinaires John Laird and Björg Brend Laird, who have been on the coffee-roasting scene for years.

AKA sells their coffee to wholesalers and individuals alike, offering a subscription service with multiple packages, and even sells their own “gear,” including coffee grinders and drip decanters.

From the looks of it, AKA’s cafe is long overdue. According to Eater, they’ve sold their coffee out of a restored 1965 Airstream trailer, and were on track to open a brick-and-mortar shop back in 2014, when they were still known as Supersonic Coffee. But a trademark dispute with fast-food chain Sonic may have slowed their momentum, prompting the name change.

No word on when, exactly, AKA’s retail cafe might open at 401 Alice Street, but I’d guess they’ll be posting updates on their Instagram and Facebook pages.
