North Beach breakfast hot spot Brioche Bakery and Cafe is opening a second location in Haight-Ashbury, at 1640 Haight Street. The space, between Belvedere and Clayton Streets, was once home to Sparrow Bar and Kitchen, which closed in 2019.
Owners Naima Moutaim and Edson Garcia, who have been running the original Brioche Bakery and Cafe for twelve years, came across the new space while Garcia was making deliveries for the bakery. “My husband saw the space and loved it,” says Moutaim. “I drove down that afternoon and fell in love with it, too.”
The new space, unlike its smaller counterpart, will be a full service restaurant, complete with a patio, indoor and outdoor seating, and a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu. According to Moutaim, wine and draft beer are also on deck.
No opening date has been announced, but Moutaim hopes to be open by the end of July or early August. “We love serving people, and we love food,” says Moutaim. “We’re so excited to join this community, and we hope they love our food, too.”
