Issues with Farmhouse Kitchen’s two-story building at 1549 Shattuck Avenue delayed its Berkeley debut by more than a year, but the eatery plans to open in 2023. It will mark the “new generation” Thai restaurant’s seventh location, joining existing outposts in San Francisco, Oakland, Menlo Park, Portland, and Los Angeles.

Farmhouse Kitchen is known for serving a mix of both traditional and more experimental Thai dishes. The menu includes starters like sushi rolls, eggrolls, and ahi scoops — bite-size towers consisting of seared sesame-crusted ahi tuna, cucumber, seaweed salad, dill, lemongrass, and chili lime. The main plates include noodle soups, curries, and street food classics like pad kee mow and spicy eggplant. In addition to its standard menu, the eatery also offers nightly specials — “from regional home-cooked dishes to market fried grasshoppers.”

Farmhouse Kitchen was voted “Best Thai Restaurant” in San Francisco by Michelin’s Bib Gourmand from 2016 to 2019. On its website, owner Kasem “Pop” Saengsawang lets us in on its ingredient for success, sharing, “It is all about the spice. The spice extends life.”

A more specific opening date has not been announced yet. What Now San Francisco was unable to contact a company representative by the time of publication.
