H Mart, a Korean grocery chain, is preparing to open its largest U.S. store in Fremont at the Pacific Commons shopping center, located at 43440 Boscell Rd.
The new location will occupy approximately 100,000 square feet across two levels, according to the San Francisco Business Times. The ground floor will feature a full grocery store, while the second floor will include a food hall, bar, several restaurants, communal spaces, and possibly an indoor play area. H Mart’s retail partners will operate some tenant spaces, and at least one restaurant will offer a fine-dining concept. Construction is expected to begin later in 2026, with a projected opening in late 2027.
Founded in 1982 in Woodside, Queens, H Mart has grown to more than 97 locations across the United States. The chain is known for offering a full line of Asian foods alongside Western groceries, and its stores often include eateries and food courts. H Mart’s Fremont location represents the largest investment in company history and marks a significant expansion of its food hall concept.
The Pacific Commons site was chosen for its visibility and proximity to Interstate 880, as well as its synergy with the shopping center’s 1.2 million square feet of retail and restaurant space. Nearby retailers include Target, Burlington, and Nordstrom Rack, creating a strong mix of everyday shopping and dining options. This will be H Mart’s largest Bay Area location to date and a major addition to the region’s Asian grocery market.
The store’s second-floor food hall will expand on H Mart’s existing food court model, offering multiple dining options under one roof. Customers can expect a mix of casual and fine-dining experiences, bars, communal seating areas, and potentially family-friendly amenities such as an indoor play area.
This Fremont location underscores H Mart’s strategy of combining traditional grocery offerings with experiential dining and community spaces. The company continues to innovate while maintaining its position as a leading Asian supermarket chain, recognized by the National Retail Federation and Supermarket News for its growth and influence.
