A new business is coming to 3369 Mission St, Kin Copa, run by chef and owner, Erik Uno Aplin, according to a liquor license filing. The date of when the business will open is unknown.
When reached over the phone on Thursday, Aplin was unable to comment about new developments and as it is in the very early stages of the business. But, he did confirm that Kin Copa will be coming to Mission Street in the future.
From Aplin’s LinkedIn, it says that Kin Copa has been established in January of 2020, so this license attainment seems to be a long time coming.
Aplin is from California and has Japanese and Scandinavian heritage. He uses his heritage to further develop his culinary abilities and create diverse new cuisines.
Aplin used to co-own and run a catering company called Ost that focused on the Japanese and Nordic fusion food, so its safe to assume Kin Copa will be much of the same.
ICHI Sushi, a very popular Japanese, sushi bar and seafood restaurant, used to occupy the space on Mission St. but has since permanently closed due to concerns during the pandemic.
Mission street, which falls right next to the Mission District and College Hill, is home to a ton of different types of restaurants and eateries. From Spanish style foods, Nepalese meals, to kebabs, to Indian to bakeries. This will be a great environment for Aplin to grow his business and be a part of a creative and delicious area.
So despite Kin Copa being a newbie on the block, the diverse style and abundance of cuisine on Mission street should make Kin Copa feel right at home and we’re excited to hear about new developments soon.
