A new bar is officially moving in to the Virgil’s Sea Room space at 3152 Mission Street, according to a press release. The nautical-themed queer bar closed earlier this year after 7 years in Bernal Heights, and now the Mothership has arrived to take its place. Literally.

MOTHERSHIP is the brainchild of Mission District bartenders Alicia Griffiths, Sean Mabry, and Joanna Ricco, whose plan is to ensure the new bar fosters the same sense of inclusivity, community, and diversity that Virgil’s Sea Room offered the neighborhood.

“Virgil’s closure left a big hole in our soul, and the community lost a beloved and invaluable gathering place,” the MOTHERSHIP team wrote on Instagram. “MOTHERSHIP’s vision will build off of what Virgil’s, and before them, Nap’s 3 Bar, began, offering an unpretentious, welcoming and affordable meeting place for community gatherings, parties, or a simple relaxing afternoon drink.”

The new bar’s atmosphere will be intimate, featuring a hanging garden, an outdoor patio, and tons of creative, fresh cocktails (and mocktails!) for people from all walks of life to enjoy.

And if you’re gearing up for a boozy, carefree 2021, MOTHERSHIP might be your new spot. Come Fall 2021, they’ll be pouring cocktails by the pitcher on the patio.
