According to SFist, Pollo Campero — known as the “KFC of Guatemala,” according to the Journal — plans to expand its Mission Street spot.

“On Thursday, the SF Planning Commission unanimously approved Pollo Campero’s request to take over the vacant next-door 2744 Mission Street location, which has been unoccupied since the Uforia Studios fitness studio there closed in 2022,” the Journal reports.

For readers who are unfamiliar with the Guatemalan-born chain, Pollo Campero “is a nostalgic favorite for many Guatemalans and Salvadorans who’ve moved stateside, some of whom are fanatical enough about the food to bring boxes of chicken to the United States for family members, as the Los Angeles Times reported in 2021,” shares Eater.

In addition to fried chicken, the menu boasts salads, empanadas, nuggets, and sides including mac & cheese, beans, and coleslaw.
