Long hailed for its sweet plantain burrito and crispy panuchos (Yucatán-style tacos), Taqueria Los Mayas has been a Richmond District go-to for authentic Mexican since 2017.
Owner — and DJ! — Morgan Anderson III opened the taqueria after racking up more than ten years of experience in the restaurant industry (he also owns Bella Trattoria on Geary Boulevard), and now he’s taking his talents down the block, to 431 Balboa Street, the soon-to-be home of Cantina Los Mayas.
Anderson and his partners have filed for liquor permits at the location, so it’s fair to guess that the new spot will serve up plenty of fiesta-style drinks, and, based on the name, will keep with the Los Mayas tradition of offering its customers an authentic Yucatán experience.
No opening date has been announced, and Anderson (who moonlights as DJ Precise, otherwise known as The Man) did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but we’d go so far as to assume that, once Cantina Los Mayas is up and running, The Man himself might show up to play a set.
