According to Palo Alto Online, Yumi Yogurt — a frozen yogurt shop that was founded in Redwood City in the 1980s, before it shuttered in 2020 — plans to reopen in the city.
Coming to 1019 El Camino Real, Unit B9, the concept will be neighbored by establishments such as the Mexican food restaurant Carnitas El Rincon, the juice shop Jamba, and the bubble tea shop Teatime.
“We closed the one that we had in Redwood City five years ago, after being in business for about 30 years in that same location,” the concept’s owner, Avil Soleiman, tells What Now San Francisco.
For readers who didn’t have an opportunity to visit the Redwood City shop before its closure, or who haven’t had a chance to swing by one of its two existing locations in Santa Clara and San Mateo, “Yumi Yogurt’s return to Redwood City marks a sweet revival of a local classic. With a legacy stretching back to the 1980s and more than 150 rotating flavors, this family-owned spot brings not just frozen yogurt, but daily moments of joy and now, even more reasons for the community to celebrate,” Soleiman shares.
“We try to offer healthy, low-calorie, low-carb, no-sugar-added products to our customers,” says Soleiman. He adds, “What makes us different is that we change flavors on a daily basis.”
Some popular options include vanilla, mint chip, and mocha fudge — all of which can be served in either a cake cone, a waffle cone, or a cup — and the list of topping options runs long.
An opening date has not been announced yet, and Soleiman shares that he’s waiting for his permit applications to be approved.
