La Colmena Market is preparing to open at 2603 Main St., Oakley, CA 94561, with the business currently completing its final hiring process. During an interview with WhatNow, the owner of the business, Wajdan Mohamed, said the market could open in late September, although no specific opening date has been established.
The concept will operate as a small grocery store carrying everyday products such as bread and milk. The market will also include a fresh meat department offering different types of fresh meat.
According to Mohamed, La Colmena will also have a restaurant inside the market. The restaurant will use a format similar to Chipotle, allowing customers to choose ingredients from options displayed in front of them. He described the food as Mexican-inspired, although the full menu is still being finalized.
A separate dessert and beverage area will offer ice cream, smoothies, drinks and coffee.
La Colmena Market will also feature a carnicería (meat department) offering premium cuts and fresh meat. The market also plans to include La Colmena Panadería, a bakery offering fresh Mexican pastries made daily, including traditional sweet breads and filled pastries. The bakery’s promotional material emphasizes traditional recipes and freshly prepared products, adding a dedicated bakery component to the market’s grocery offerings.
