According to a recent permit filing, BorderTown Mexican Grill aims to open a new location in Bellingham at 1055 N State Street.

BorderTown’s first location resides in Blaine. The owners of BorderTown are Nelly Santiago and Abi Garcia. “BorderTown Mexican Grill features authentic Mexican food in an open-style atmosphere.”

A 2023 article from The Northern Light tells us more about BorderTown and its history: “Qué Onda Fusion Cuisine is Santiago and Garcia’s first brick-and-mortar restaurant. The pair started Bordertown Mexican Grill under a different name, as a taco truck in the parking lot of Hill’s Chevron in the summer of 2016.”

“Gas station owner Mike Hill leased Bordertown’s current location between Starbucks and Hill’s Chevron in 2019. Santiago and Garcia purchased the building at 442 Peace Portal Drive in late January after wanting to find a new place to cook different cuisines.”

Que Onda Fusion Cuisine has been marked as permanently closed by Yelp. Another article from The Northern Light, also written in 2023, states that “The restaurant served breakfast, lunch and dinner from across the world from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday…”
