According to a recent permit filing, Luna Park Cafe is changing ownership at 2918 SW Avalon Way in the Youngstown area.

“Luna Park Cafe has been here for 30 years and I promised John, the former owner, to keep it for another 30 years to continue his legacy. We are an American diner, and I want to work hard to improve Luna Park Cafe so this can be a staple of the West Seattle dining scene. I want Luna Park Cafe to be their memory, present, and the future,” owner Heong Soon Park told What Now Seattle.

“I have had Bacco Cafe since 2008. Bacco Cafe is located in the Pike Place Market, although it is amazing to be in the market. I missed regulars, or families who live around the restaurant.”

“I want to create connections with our guests and be their friends. My job here is to make this place where they can come and hang out and show their children and give them great memories.”

“To keep Luna Park Cafe open for another 30 years, I will have to make a lot of improvements. I am a trained chef, I want to change the menu to make it more approachable yet locally driven and make a reason to come back.”

According to the company website, “The building, that houses the café, was constructed by Chris Boysen right after World War II.”

“You can still see his namesake on the adjacent apartment building. Originally built as a neighborhood tavern, the building underwent various identities over the decades. The last one is the infamous “Pat & Ron’s Tavern” which closed in 1988.”

“After months of work on the space, it reopened in March of 1989 as Luna Park Cafe. The name comes from the former boardwalk park that existed in West Seattle in the early 1900’s.”

“Over the years it has become a museum for all generations to enjoy. With a 1958 Seeburg Jukebox, other coin-ops like Pepe the Dancing Clown, and the mini Orchestra above the front door, and plenty of nostalgic decorations, this diner is a haven to its regulars and a spectacle to newcomers.”

“The idea behind the cafe is to serve delicious food and great milkshakes in a 1950’s diner atmosphere. We employ some great people and we try to be a fun place for all.”
