A Puyallup business is changing hands and will have new owners starting July 19.
Red Barn Market and Nursery, located at 14407 94th Ave., will celebrate its grand reopening under new owner Kimberly Charlton. The current owner, Dennis Kupchenko, took over in 2017 at just 19 years old. He will wrap up his last season at Red Barn on July 18, according to The News Tribune.
“After months of searching for the right people to carry on everything we’ve built together, I’ve found them. A family with the same passion, heart, and dedication to the community that has made Red Barn so special. This isn’t just a business to them—it’s a dream. They are committed to keeping Red Barn a place where families gather, traditions grow, and community thrives,” Kupchenko said via Facebook.
Charlton told the outlet she and her family have been longtime customers at Red Barn for years. Although she is the sole owner on paper, her seven children and 24 grandchildren plan to help run the business.
Lauren, one of her daughters, will manage Red Barn’s social media. The others will assist with ordering and stocking shelves.
“We are deeply honored to carry on the legacy that Dennis built with so much heart and we are so incredibly thankful that Dennis has trusted us to do so. This really is a dream come true for us! We know we have some HUGE shoes to fill but our commitment is to preserve everything you’ve come to love about the Red Barn, while also growing and serving the community in new ways we think you will love!” the family shared on social media.
Charlton and her family plan to keep the market open year-round. Kupchenko historically closed during the winter months, but Charlton said people still need produce during that time, so they look forward to staying open.
