One of Washington’s most well-known independent breweries is entering a new era.

Seattle-based Ackley Brands has acquired Silver City Brewery, according to New School Beer + Cider.

Ackley Brands, a family-owned company founded in 2016, purchased the Bremerton-based brewery ahead of its 30th anniversary.

“Silver City’s dedication to crafting exceptional beers alongside community engagement align perfectly with our mission,” Ackley Brands founder and president Brandon Ackley said in a statement. “This acquisition not only strengthens our craft beer portfolio but also allows us to continue in our pursuit of creating the next craft beer alliance through stewarding beloved local beer brands.”

Brothers Scott and Steve Houmes founded Silver City in 1996 and built it into a Pacific Northwest staple. Over the years, the brewery has produced regional favorites like Tropic Haze, Ridgetop Red, Silver City Pils and Ride the Spiral Double IPA. It has earned nine medals from the Great American Beer Festival and continues to brew at its original Bremerton facility and taproom.

Ackley Brands also owns Mac & Jack’s Brewing Co. and plans to keep distributing Silver City locally through Columbia Distributing. On its website, the company says it aims to “foster innovation and blend time-honored winemaking and brewing practices with modern creativity.”

Scott Houmes said he looks forward to what’s ahead under the new partnership.

“Becoming part of Ackley Brands is an exciting opportunity for Silver City Brewery,” Houmes said in a statement posted to social media. “We have always been passionate about innovation and community, and with Ackley’s support in management and reach, we can elevate our brewery to new levels. We are eager to join a company who shares our passion for the Pacific Northwest and look forward to a promising future.”

Ackley Brands did not acquire the Silver City Restaurant and Ale House, which will continue to operate separately.
