The Fine Baking Co. is set to open its doors in the Gatewood area, located at 6969 California Ave SW, confirmed by its owner Chely Smithgall.
“Our opening date will definitely depend on all of the permits, but we are definitely hoping to be able to open before the holidays,” Smithgall told What Now Seattle.
“I’m a home baker with a Cottage food permit, and since feedback and turnout have been great, I decided to open my storefront!”
Chely is originally from Mexico, and her husband is from Philadelphia, where they lived in Texas for 15 years, and moved to the Seattle area in the summer of 2016.
Her history is described as “a little different” being a mom, cost accountant, Zumba instructor, and now baker. She still teaches Zumba classes at the West Seattle Health Club and has a love of making people happy by dancing and eating yummy sweets.
The Fine Baking Co will offer cakes, cupcakes, personalized printed cookies, cake pops, and other treats. By opening the store, people can order or just stop by and get whatever catches their eye.
While Chely expressed that she doesn’t have a website yet, all of her orders have been made through social media from Instagram or Facebook, with a lengthy portfolio of past creations.
