The Langley Sidebar, a new legal-themed craft cocktail and wine bar, is preparing to open in Langley at 107 1st Street, Unit B.

Owner Brad Bales tells What Now Seattle that they hope to open by Valentine’s Day weekend, around February 14th. The Langley Sidebar will move into a space next to The Blue Peony, a local shop known for its artisanal goods and gifts. Brad Bales is a sitting municipal court judge, a former homicide and violent crime prosecutor, and a retired US Army Colonel in the JAG Corps. Co-owner Mara Bales is a Director at Adobe and a former Senior Corporate Counsel for Microsoft. Customers can expect small plates such as cheese and charcuterie, hummus plates, flatbreads, pita wraps, and salads, paired with a selection of legal-themed cocktails and wines.

The Langley Sidebar concept is inspired by the legal term “sidebar,” which refers to a private conversation between attorneys and a judge outside the jury’s hearing.

“We named our restaurant The Langley Sidebar because we wanted to open an elegant craft cocktail and new and old world wine bar that was a place for private conversation, a place with great drinks, good food, and a playful atmosphere,” Brad Bales tells What Now Seattle.

The interior will feature an elevated marble-and-mahogany bar, leather seating, and a ten-foot glass wall that opens onto the town’s main street. A private event space is also in the works.

The bar’s legal-themed cocktail menu will include drinks such as The Judge, The Defender, 75 to Life—a Whidbey Island spin on the French 75—along with The Arsonist, The Foundation, and Corporate Counsel. The owners have aimed to combine creative mixology with a refined, approachable setting where guests can relax and enjoy conversation over craft beverages.

The Bales family’s experience in law and corporate leadership plays a significant role in The Langley Sidebar’s concept and service. Their background ensures attention to detail and professionalism throughout the experience, from service to menu development.

This will be an excellent landing space for The Langley Sidebar, located in the heart of Langley’s shopping and dining district. The Bales hope the bar becomes a local destination for craft cocktails, conversation, and small bites. Customers can also follow updates on Instagram at @TheLangleySidebar.
