Mellow Mushroom Headed to Riverview

Last week, Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers, a pizza chain with more than 160 locations in the U.S., announced plans for a new location in Riverview. Opening at 10240 Big Bend Road, the new Mellow Mushroom will be helmed by seasoned hospitality veterans and Mellow Mushroom franchisees Bob Basham and Jesse McPherson, who also operate Mellow Mushrooms in Brandon, Clearwater, and Wesley Chapel.

“We’re thrilled to bring Mellow Mushroom’s one-of-a-kind vibe and creative menu to Riverview, a community that’s growing and full of energy,” Bob Basham said in a press release. “This new location is another opportunity to share our passion for great food, great people and a place where everyone can relax and have a good time. This new spot is all about great pizza, cold drinks and good times with the kind of atmosphere you can only find at Mellow Mushroom.”

Mellow Mushroom is known for its quirky counter-culture vibe, with each location a bit different, always blending “the boundaries between art, music, high-quality ingredients and passionate standards for dining,” says the press release. “The main menu – anchored by its coveted “secret dough” recipe – boasts cult-favorite pizzas like the Holy Shiitake Pie with olive oil and garlic base, shiitake, button and portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions, mozzarella and Wisconsin aged white cheddar, finished with a garlic aioli swirl and a spritz of black truffle oil, garnished with fresh chives and shaved parmesan.”

Bob Basham is an original co-founder of Outback Steakhouse, owning and operating franchises like Glory Days Grill, Everglazed Donuts, and Bare Naked Kitchen. What Now reached out to Basham on Friday to ask about plans for the opening. Basham was not immediately available for comment.
