Yesterday, Dec 5, a plan review was filed with the city of Holmes Beach for Anna Maria Island Coffee Shack, a small café located at 5500 Marina Dr that’s owned and operated by New York native and recent Florida transplant, Michelle McSweeney.

It’s unclear when the coffee shop might open, however, earlier today McSweeney posted on the company’s Facebook page that “we should have our permit by Christmas,” and that yesterday the small business owner “applied for our Florida restaurant license.” Meanwhile, photos of the space suggest there’s still a fair amount of work to be done.

McSweeney did not respond to a request for comment.

Anna Maria Island Coffee Shack received a portion of its funding from a successful Kickstarter campaign launched earlier this year.

According to the Kickstarter page, McSweeney worked at Utica Coffee for seven years and “was the kind of barista that had drinks ready before you reached the counter and was so happy to see everyone.”

McSweeney goes on to write, “Now, it’s my turn to serve more! To get my chance to greet another community with the same care and love.”
