With nearly 600 locations across the country, Del Taco has a long history that stretches all the way back to 1964 in Yermo, California. Founded there by Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson, Del Taco served a menu featuring 19-cent tacos, tostadas, fries, and 24-cent cheeseburgers. The world has changed unimaginably much since then—and Del Taco has grown with the times.
The menu has diversified considerably in more than half a century, but you’ll still find tacos, burgers, and more. Currently featured items include the $5 Clásico El Big Box (Our $5 Clásico El Big Box. Del Combo™ Beef & Bean Burrito, Mini Quesadilla, value-sized Crinkle Cut Fries and 16 oz Fountain Drink), and the $9 Ameri-Mex El Big Box (Enjoy the best of both worlds with our $9 Ameri-Mex El Big Box. Double Del® Cheeseburger, Bean & Cheese Burrito [choice of red or green sauce], Soft Snack Taco, value-sized Crinkle Cut Fries and 16 oz Fountain Drink).
Now, a new Del Taco location appears to be in the works in Sarasota, where plan review paperwork submitted by FreshMexFL LLC shows a new location opening at 5850 Fruitville Road.
Located on the southwest corner of the intersection with Cattlemen Road, the new Del Taco would join a restaurant community that includes brands like Jersey Mike’s Subs, Bob Evans, Starbucks, Rodizio Grill Brazilian Steakhouse, and Gecko’s Grill & Pub.
Franchisee Tim Cloe could not immediately be reached for comment on the opening.
