Big Chicken, a fast-casual chicken restaurant brand founded by NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal, has opened its first Canadian location in Hamilton, inside TD Coliseum.
The brand’s Canadian debut took place in late November 2025 at the newly redeveloped arena, according to Retail Insider. Big Chicken partnered with Oak View Group, which operates TD Coliseum, to bring the concept to the venue. The Hamilton opening marks the company’s first step into Canada following the completion of a Canadian franchise disclosure document and the sale of at least one franchise agreement. Customers can expect Big Chicken’s core lineup of chicken sandwiches, sides, and shakes designed for fast, high-volume service.
Founded in 2018, Big Chicken has grown across the United States and the United Kingdom, operating not only traditional restaurants but also locations in arenas, cruise ships, casinos, and a U.S. military base. Craveworthy Brands serves as a managing partner and investor in the concept, supporting its domestic and international growth. The brand has built a strong presence in large venues, consistently ranking among the top-grossing food concepts, according to the company. Canada represents the next phase of that expansion.
TD Coliseum reopened in late 2025 following a $300 million redevelopment and now seats approximately 18,000 guests. The arena is home to the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League and hosts concerts and large-scale events throughout the year. Big Chicken and Oak View Group have previously worked together in the U.S. and U.K., making the Hamilton opening a continuation of an established partnership. Chris Nelson, Senior Vice President of Hospitality at Oak View Group, has overseen food and beverage operations at the venue.
The menu includes Big Chicken staples such as the Original sandwich, Shaq’s Spicy Maple Crunch, and Sweet Fire Fries. A Canada-specific sandwich featuring a hot maple honey flavor profile was introduced for the opening. That item was developed in collaboration with Oak View Group’s corporate chef and Cisco Canada’s culinary team in Mississauga. The menu is built to support speed and consistency in an arena setting.
Big Chicken partnered with Cisco Canada to establish its supply chain ahead of entering the market and has invested in understanding Canadian franchising regulations, consumer expectations, and real estate dynamics. The brand plans to open brick-and-mortar restaurants in Canada, with additional locations expected in the Greater Toronto Area and interest emerging in Western Canada, including Edmonton. Big Chicken is also exploring future openings in Honduras as part of its broader international growth strategy.
