Ketkoot, an Iraqi-style chargrilled chicken restaurant based in Mississauga, is preparing to expand into downtown Toronto, with a new location planned near Yonge and Dundas, according to Insauga Toronto.
The new location would bring the restaurant’s halal chicken concept to one of downtown Toronto’s busiest areas, surrounded by shops, offices, entertainment venues and other quick-service restaurants. The restaurant’s exact address and opening date have not yet been confirmed.
Ketkoot currently operates at 3450 Platinum Drive, Unit 11, in Mississauga’s Ridgeway Plaza. The restaurant specializes in Iraqi-style chargrilled chicken, which is marinated for 36 hours in a blend of spices and garlic before being grilled. According to its official website, the restaurant serves 100% halal chicken prepared using the zabiha method.
The menu features whole and half chargrilled chicken, pulled chicken sliders, jumbo wings, seasoned rice, warm pita, salads and sauces. One of its signature dishes is the Musahab wrap, made with pulled chargrilled chicken tossed in mild or hot sauce and wrapped with Ketkoot sauce.
Ketkoot ’s offerings center on grilled chicken, with family meals combining whole chicken, sliders, wings, rice, fries, pita, pickles and dipping sauces. These options give diners a choice of individual meals and larger combinations designed for sharing.
The name Ketkoot refers to a baby chick in Iraqi Arabic, reflecting founder Karar Awady’s connection to his childhood in Iraq and the food traditions that inspired the restaurant. According to the company’s official story, the concept was created to bring those cultural memories and flavours into a modern dining experience.
In addition to the planned downtown Toronto restaurant, the brand has indicated that a Vaughan location and further Greater Toronto Area expansion are also in the works, according to reports about its upcoming locations.
An official opening date for the Yonge and Dundas location has not been announced. Details about the restaurant’s exact address, design and opening plans remain limited.
WhatNow reached out to Ketkoot for additional information about the planned Toronto location but had not received a response at the time of publication. This article will be updated as more details become available.
