Slammie Sammies, a Toronto sandwich shop known for its globally inspired “big hot sandwiches,” is getting ready to open its first permanent location in Leslieville at 828 Eastern Avenue.

The new storefront is taking over a former Subway restaurant in a space attached to Grand Car Wash, according to BlogTO. While an exact opening date has not been confirmed, the team anticipates opening within the next few weeks. The new location will feature Slammie Sammies’ full menu of over-the-top sandwiches, along with house-made sides and signature snacks, such as Crunchy Croûte potato chips.

Slammie Sammies originally launched as a pop-up inside Opera Bob’s Public House on Dundas West in spring 2024. After the pub’s closure in December 2024, the brand continued operating on a catering and events-only basis while seeking a long-term home.

Pedro Dos Santos and Marilyn Simms, the duo behind Vert Casse-Croûte Catering, own and operate the concept. The duo drew inspiration from Toronto’s multicultural neighborhoods to craft a menu that reflects global influences, featuring sandwiches such as the Pork Bifana from Little Portugal, Tzatziki Grilled Chicken from Little Greektown, and Miso Eggplant Scallopini from Little Tokyo.

The new Leslieville space offers a walkable location with built-in infrastructure from the previous tenant, allowing for a faster transition to full service. Menu items will be made to order, with vegetarian and halal-friendly options available.

Slammie Sammies also plans to continue its catering program, expanding its reach beyond the storefront. Sides, such as hand-cut fries and chili-lime tortilla chips, round out a playful menu designed for both everyday lunches and special events.

“Experience a global sandwich adventure at our one-stop shop, featuring mouth-watering big hot sandwiches made to order,” according to the company’s website. “From St. Clair’s Latin cuisine with our Grilled Steak Chimichurri to Little Portugal’s Pork Bifana, our unique selection of whole cuts of meat and homemade sauces will keep you coming back for another tasty trip.”
