A brand-new multi-purpose concept called The Willow Play Cafe is set to make its debut later this year in Toronto at 1540 Dupont St.
The cafe will be a multi-use space combining an indoor playground for children under six, a cafe serving all ages, and a gift shop, according to YourCityWithing. The Willow Play Cafe will also host birthday parties, private bookings, and in-house events. Founded by Christina DiAdamo, a mother of two and former tech product marketing leader, the concept was inspired by her experience with parental leave and the lack of child-friendly yet parent-inclusive indoor spaces in Toronto, particularly in the west end. The Willow Play Cafe is expected to open in October 2025.
“Every inch of The Willow has been designed with families in mind—we want to bridge the gap between grown-up comforts and the magic of childhood,” according to an Instagram post from the company. “It’s unassuming from the outside. It looks like a cozy, charming cafe. But step through the archway, and it transforms into a world of wonder. For kids: A whimsical space for play, imagination, and discovery—complete with a custom-built clubhouse, STEM-based activities, and snack plates they can choose themselves. For adults: A nostalgic escape to a simpler time, where things were slower and you could just be in the moment. Get a coffee, find a comfortable seat, and pick at your own snack board—all while keeping an eye on your kids.”
The design draws inspiration from nature, classic children’s storybooks, retro cafes, Toronto’s industrial roots, and educational approaches such as Reggio Emilia and STEM-based play. DiAdamo partnered with Denizens of Design and DS Studio to create a space that balances adult comfort with engaging play for children. The cafe will offer nutritious snack boards featuring fruits, vegetables, and local, organic products, with dietary accommodations and elevated options for adults.
Education will be central to Willow’s programming, led by a hired specialist who will design STEM-based activities, keep the play space current, and engage children during open play, all included with admission. The announcement has already attracted hundreds of Instagram followers and sign-ups for the waitlist, with future plans including fundraising events, adult-only gatherings, and book clubs for both children and adults.
“We’re so happy to be joining The Junction Triangle community and beyond grateful for the warm welcome we’ve already received from our new neighbours,” according to an Instagram post from the company. “We’re inspired by the industrial roots of The Junction and the authentic, community-oriented character of the restaurants and shops in the neighbourhood. We hope to honour this history by creating a cozy, charming, and inviting space for families across Toronto.”
