An acclaimed Thai concept is preparing for its DMV homecoming after years of sharing its beloved cuisine with the world. Alfie’s has fed and charmed global diners, but now it is preparing to hang its hat in an intimate DC space this spring, reports Eater Washington DC.
The celebrated restaurant from Alex McCoy and Justin Ahn will be greeting customers at 1228½ 31st Street NW in Georgetown. While a precise date is not yet available for Alfie’s triumphant DC return, local foodies will be able to stop into the “Locally sourced Thai joint with natural wines” at some point in May.
The 25-seat brick-and-mortar will be the organic next move for the concept, which entered the DC dining scene as a Park View pop-up in 2016. Chef Alex McCoy previously explained to What Now DC that he always intended to return Alfie’s to the District, and finding the ideal location cemented his resolve: “When the space in Georgetown became available, it was almost serendipitous. It was perfect. I find that the best restaurants happen organically. This has taken quite a lot of time, but the end result will really be the best version of Alfie’s.”
Future regulars can look forward to amazing Thai food prepared with locally sourced and unexpected ingredients. While Alfie’s inaugural brick-and-mortar restaurant will emphasis the “ethos of Thai cooking”, lunch service will still prominently feature the street-food style preparations that initially endeared the concept to so many DC diners.
