Bad Axe Throwing will soon open in Alexandria at 617 South Pickett Street, according to recently-issued building permits.

Jesse Gutzman, the company’s Managing Director, confirmed the plans in an email to What Now DC, writing the entertainment venue is “aiming to be open the first Friday in September at the latest.”

According to Jesse, the location of Bad Axe will encompass over 4,000 square feet with seven axe throwing lanes and 14 targets. A food prep area will be included, where they will be offering “original spins on favorites including pizza, hot dogs and nachos.” Bad Axe Throwing is said to be offering different canned beverages such as local craft beers as well as a selection of canned wine.

The new facility will be a high-end build with an upscale vibe. “It will have a modern feel to it rather than industrial,” Gutzman told What Now DC.

The company’s website and Instagram show off Bad Axe’s passion for the backyard Canadian pass-time. Bad Axe is known as the largest axe throwing club in the world with locations in both Canada, the U.K. and the United States. Bad Axe not only offers private parties, they offer space for leagues and walk-ins as well.

Due to the nature of the sport axe throwing Bad Axe has a highly trained staff with set rules for safety as well as conduct.

Unlike axes of the past, Bad Axe offer modern day throwing axes that are balanced, lightweight and easy to swing with either one or two hands. In the past axes were difficult to carry comfortably, hefty and not as easy to swing; making them more difficult for use in axe throwing settings.

Bad Axe Throwing is not new to the area. The company has an existing D.C. location, at 2419 Evarts St NE Unit C, according to its website.
