A unique and growing chain is bringing a taste of the Southwest Florida nightlife to Washington, DC. Bodega Taqueria y Tequila is opening its first District restaurant in Foggy Bottom next year, according to the popular Twitter feed @Eat_dc.

The restaurant and speakeasy is aiming to begin serving customers at 2127 I Street NW in fall of 2024. The Florida-based concept has applied for a liquor license for the location, which will comfortably accommodate up to 100 guests inside, while offering outdoor seating for 50 customers. The establishment’s protest hearing will be held on April 10, 2024.

Bodega Taqueria y Tequila provides customers with an upscale Mexican dining experience in a creative and unusual environment. Customers order their tacos via counter service, then pass through to a vivid and dynamic speakeasy. The bar often features a DJ or live music.

The independently-run chain has experienced great success since its inception in 2015. Founded by partners Keith Menin and Jared Galbut, Bodega Taqueria y Tequila currently has seven locations open, with several more on the way. The concept currently has a presence in Chicago and Florida, with DC and Nashville restaurants on the way.

As the name suggests, Bodega Taqueria y Tequila offers customers an impressive array of taco options, ranging from classic like al pastor to less conventional choices including jalapeno brisket. The taco adverse needn’t change their dinner plans, however. The restaurant’s menu also features quesadillas, burritos, bowls, and nachos.
