A beloved DMV deli with old school warmth and New York charm is eying a new Clarendon home. Buffalo and Bergen, a passion project from Rammy-award winner Gina Chersevani, is coming to Arlington later this year, reports local media outlet ARLNow.
The 1028 North Garfield Street shop will be the popular deli’s fourth location. Buffalo and Bergen will continue the storefront’s history of serving up delicious sandwiches; the space housed UnCommon Luncheonette until its closure in September of 2024.
A precise opening date is not yet available, however Buffalo and Bergen is aiming to begin serving customers this summer.
Chersevani, who has racked up considerable accolades during her time in the DMV hospitality scene, explains that she has a history with Clarendon-one she is excited to return to. She states: “During the earlier days of my career, I spent two formative years at EatBar, and I quickly fell in love with the warm community spirit and the passionate local food scene in Arlington.”
Buffalo and Bergen currently has three wildly successful locations in DC; one on Capitol Hill, one at Cleveland Park, and another in Union Market. While the Arlington shop will certainly adhere to the retro soda shop vibe that’s made the concept so beloved, the Clarendon location will have a few unique-to-it touches, notably menu items intended as homage to Chersevani’s Sicilian lineage.
