The Bussdown, an Oakland, California-based restaurant, will open up a brick-and-mortar location at DC’s Western Market at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.
An official opening date hasn’t been announced yet, but the restaurant began launching pop-up events to offer DC customers a taste of its upcoming pan-African soul food menu, according to The Bussdown’s Instagram page.
The Bussdown combines the bold flavors of the Caribbean and Cajun-Creole cuisines. Co-owner Solomon Johnson will be running the brick-and-mortar restaurant location in DC.
“I wanted to create a space that reflects the migratory path of slaves from Africa through the Caribbean and into the Edisto Islands,” said Johnson, according to the Washington Informer. “The Bussdown is a celebration of everything Black and Brown, an homage to the culinary traditions that have traveled through generations.”
