The minds behind one of Baltimore’s top restaurants are hatching plans to further their culinary imprint in the city. Irena Stein and Mark Demshak, riding the success of Alma Cocina Latina, are crowd-sourcing their latest project, an arepa bar called Candela.
Multi-hyphenate Stein is bringing her extensive knowledge of arepas to 10 East Lanvale Street. Interior renderings show a clean, modern, and spacious floor plan, with seating for approximately 30 customers indoors, as well as additional al fresco seating.
Candela is sure to become a favorite among Baltimore foodies. The crowd-funding site describes Stein and Demshak’s vision as: “The Candela menu will include approximately 12 varied arepas including seafood, meat, chicken, vegetarian and vegan. Additionally, guests will be able to make their own creations by combining the available ingredients into their arepa masterpiece. Other menu items will include: empanadas, cachapas, natural house-made beverages, alcoholic beverages, sodas, coffee and tea.”
Stein and Demshak have invited Alma fans and future Candela regulars to invest directly in the pair’s latest innovation. The duo have an active campaign for the arepa bar live on Crowd Fund Baltimore. While an opening timeline is not currently available, the crowd-funding period is in its final days.
