Hungry DC residents will be seeing yellow this summer. Yellow Cafe and an attached rooftop bar called La’ Shukran have filed for a new liquor license for a Union Square location, reports popular Twitter user @eat_dc.

Yellow Cafe will be opening a test kitchen and wood-fired grill at 417–419 Morse Street NE. The new location will be Yellow’s headquarters, occupying 4,000 square feet of a former meat-packing warehouse. According to licensing documents, the building’s interior will provide seating for up to 116 guests, while the exterior will accommodate 36 patrons.

Both Yellow and La’ Shukran are projects of Michelin-starred chef Michael Rafidi. Speaking to Eater Washington DC about his latest undertaking, Rafidi states “Everything is going to start at that [Yellow] location as far as development. At night we’re going to have some fun with kick ass kebabs and natural wines.”

Yellow Cafe has earned wide-spread acclaim for its brilliant fusions of Levantine staples and French patisserie favorites.

Rafidi describes La’ Shukran’s environment as “habibi funk”. The unique concept will include a bar, patio, and dining room. Patrons will be able to dance the night away as a late night DJ plays Middle Eastern music. The drink program will be helmed by Radovan Jankovic of Residents and will focus on Levantine wines and arak.

Both La’ Shukran and Yellow Cafe will begin greeting customers this summer.
