Van Leeuwen Ice Cream-already a powerful force in the DMV frozen treats scene-is planning to deepen its Virginia empire. The popular national chain is eying a new Ballston location, reports local media outlet ARLNow.

Permit applications suggest that Van Leeuwen is hoping to start scooping out of  4075 Wilson Boulevard as part of the Two Liberty Center. The specific space the ice creamery is looking into previously housed Rustico Restaurant until it closed in March of 2024.

This particular potential Van Leeuwen location is still in the very early stages; the space is listed as “currently being marketed” to the ice cream magnate, making it impossible to hazard as guess as to an opening timeline.

While Ballston residents wait to enjoy Van Leeuwen’s critically acclaimed ice cream, they can check out one of the brand’s other DMV-area locations. The chain currently has seven DMV locations-six in DC and one in Arlington, Virginia. An eighth storefront is coming soon to Alexandria, and another is in development for Clarendon.
