Bibliophiles have long known that few pleasures surpass the comfort of a good book enjoyed alongside a great cup of coffee and a sweet treat. The Crystal City literati are certain to delight, then, in the knowledge that a new bookstore and cafe is making its way to the neighborhood. Daydrift Book Cafe, a new concept from Episcope Hospitality, will be making its Arlington debut later this summer, reports local media outlet ARLNow.

The combination bookstore, market, and cafe will be taking over the space at 1550 Crystal Drive that Mah-Ze-Dahr occupied for three and a half years. That particular establishment shuttered in January of this year, clearing the way for Daydrift’s entrance.

It is not yet entirely clear when Daydrift will be turning the page on its inaugural location, however indicators suggest it won’t be long; the cafe’s Instagram page states that it is “coming soon” and the Episcope Hospitality website says Daydrift is “opening summer 2025”. Additionally, the concept is actively seeking job applicants to round out its staff.

Daydrift promises to be an oasis for Arlington’s book enthusiasts; Episcope plans to create a clean, well-lighted place for the local community. And while visitors feed their minds, the cafe will be prepared to feed their stomachs. Episcope’s website explains the intended menu, saying: “Daydrift is an outpost for fresh, nourishing ingredients and a slower pace. The menu features vibrant salads, wholesome bowls, artful tartines, and refreshing smoothies, thoughtfully sourced and simply prepared. Every dish is designed to taste great and make you feel good. Book-lined shelves and a steady hum of espresso invite you to settle in.”
