One of the District’s favorite-and most innovative-breweries is creeping up on the finish line of its third and most ambitious location. Atlas Brew Works is closing one door in Ivy City while preparing to open its next in the Bridge District, reports the Washington Business Journal.

The brewery-celebrated for its sustainability practices-is aiming to shut down the Ivy City location in September. Atlas’s new 633 Howard Avenue SE home will be its largest to date; the concept will have 24,260 square feet of space in total, broken down to 20,000 square feet for beer production, 4,000 square feet for a taproom and kitchen, with an additional 6,000 square feet for an outdoor patio.

Atlas hopes to be ready for its Bridge District fans in September or October.

Atlas’s founder and CEO, Justin Cox, believes this new location will allow the brewery to offer customers an experience it hasn’t been able to provide before. He states: “I just think the atmosphere over there is going to be spectacular, and doesn’t really exist in D.C., that much outdoor space. Our hope is we’ll be able to provide that experience for people that they’re currently getting driving out to places in Virginia like farm breweries and wineries.”

Atlas has been winning over DC beer fans since it fermented onto the scene in 2013. The brewery has earned wide acclaim and is a Rammy award winner.
