According to a recent article from DCIST, Grounded will soon open in the Anacostia area, located at 1913 Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE.

A representative from Grounded was not immediately available for commentary upon What Now DC’s request.

While an official opening date has yet to be released, according to the article, Grounded is a Black and women-owned plant shop that has evolved into an immersive experience, now including a café and wellness studio, that will open sometime next spring.

Co-founded by the visionary duo of Danuelle Doswell and Mignon Hemsley, Grounded is on a mission to create a sanctuary that transcends the conventional boundaries of a plant shop. The vision behind Grounded is rooted in the concept of biophilic design. This design philosophy is committed to strengthening the bond between humans and the natural world. It seeks to foster an environment where nature is seamlessly integrated into everyday life, promoting well-being and tranquility.

For Doswell and Hemsley, connecting people to nature is more than just aesthetics; it’s about addressing fundamental issues in their community. Ward 8, where Grounded will reside, has faced numerous challenges, including food insecurity and mental health diagnoses. Recognizing these hardships, Doswell expresses a heartfelt aspiration to provide a haven where individuals can find solace and healing.

The café at Grounded will be offering a menu featuring a variety of toasts, pastries, coffee, tea, matcha, and locally sourced ingredients. This is not just a place to grab a quick bite; it’s designed to encourage coworking and provide a nurturing space for friends and neighbors to connect.

Extending the well-being experience, Grounded’s wellness studio aims to be a haven for self-care. Instructors will guide yoga, Reiki, meditation, and various classes infused with the healing power of natural elements.

Grounded plans to establish a nonprofit that educates kids and teenagers about the outdoors and how to grow their own food. Their commitment to the community also includes a pop-up community fridge program to address food insecurity, according to the previously mentioned article.
