A mysterious Italian eatery is making moves towards a DC opening. Ama, the pet project of Chef Johanna Hellrigl Wilder, has filed for a liquor license according to the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration.

The submitted paperwork states that the Italian restaurant will be opening at 885 New Jersey Avenue SE, with seating for up to 126 guests. The license placard was placed on December 15. An abundance of information is not currently available. No designated opening date has yet been announced, and the concept is listed as “coming soon”.

Ama will be entering the bustling Capitol Riverfront community, across from the South Capitol Hill Whole Foods.

Ama founders Micah and Johanna Wilder also masterminded Chaplin’s, Zeppelin. Hank’s Cocktail Bar, and Mercy Me.

Ama’s filed documents state that the operating hours will be between 7 and 1 am. The protest hearing for the establishment’s liquor license will be held on April 10, 2024.
