South Block has its eye on a major expansion, and according to Washington Business Journal, it’s raising capital to more than triple the number of stores it has in the DC area in the next few years.

The company, founded in 2011 by Amir Mostafavi, currently has 15 locations listed on its website, including one inside Union Market and another in Georgetown. But that number could grow to 50, Washington Business Journal reported. South Block initially announced its plans to join Amazon’s East Coast headquarters in a Facebook post

South Block serves handcrafted smoothies and blended bowls, as well as organic juices and shots, toasts, plant-based lifestyle bowls and a small selection of packaged treats.

The Sunshine Bowl, listed on the company’s website as a fan favorite, features guava juice, mango and bananas blended together and topped with granola, strawberries, banana and pineapple. The Super Green Smoothie, another best-seller, includes pineapple juice, kale, spinach, mangos and bananas.

South Block isn’t Mostafavi’s first foray into the juice bar business. According to his LinkedIn profile, he opened his first juice bar, Campus Fresh, at George Washington University in 2004. Then in 2011, South Block was born when its first storefront opened in Clarendon.

South Block did not immediately respond to What Now DC’s request for comment.
