A powerful force in the DMV dining scene is bringing a taste of Tokyo to Harbor East later this year. The Atlas Restaurant Group is opening a new concept called Kannon in the neighborhood, and it promises to bring local foodies an unforgettable izakaya experience, reports the Baltimore Business Journal.

The eatery will be inviting visitors to savor the flavors of Japan in its new home in the E.J. Codd Co. building at 1429 Aliceanna Street. While an exact opening date is not yet available, Kannon will be making its debut in the historic space this spring.

Atlas’s latest project is a labor of love for CEO and president Alex Smith. He states: “Kannon is a project close to my heart, inspired by my travels to Japan, Los Angeles and New York.”

Kannon’s objective is relatively straightforward; to bring Harbor East diners an authentic Japanese dining experience. An official statement from Atlas offers a tantalizing glimpse at what the restaurant will bring to the neighborhood, saying “Guests can look forward to a modern and comfortable environment where every detail, from the ambiance to the plating, captures the spirit of Japanese dining culture.”

Chef Timur Fazilov will be in charge of Kannon’s menu. The dining program will prominently feature handrolls, sashimi, nigiri, and crudo.
