DC foodies will soon have the chance to indulge in delicious and acclaimed sushi. Uchi, the Austin-based concept from James Beard Award-winner Chef Tyson Cole, is making its way into the hearts and stomachs of DMV diners later this year, reports Eater Washington DC.

District foodies have been anticipating Uchi’s arrival at 1150 17th Street NW for around a year. The celebrated concept will be opening as a part of the 17xM office building and should be ready for customers by mid-spring.

A press release provided to What Now DC explains that the District storefront will maintain the quality and standards that have made Uchi such a phenomenon, while also honoring its new home. Speaking of the location, Tyson Cole states: “Expanding to D.C. is an incredible opportunity for us to continue evolving while staying rooted in what makes Uchi special. Each Uchi location is shaped by the energy and character of its city, and we’re excited to immerse ourselves in D.C.’s dynamic culture.”

Future customers can look forward to a sweeping, romantic, and slightly theatrical dining experience, described as: “Uchi D.C.’s interior will…reflect its Asian roots, referencing the acclaimed 2000 Hong Kong film In the Mood for Love via theatrical vignettes of space and cinematic lighting motifs. The restaurant will have 185 seats, including 18 at the bar, 14 at the sushi counter, and two private dining rooms that can be separated or combined for intimate gatherings.”

The Hai Hospitality restaurant will offer plenty to make the hearts of local foodies flutter. The menu is described as “hot and cool tastings, sushi and sashimi, makimono, yakimono, tempura and a changing omakase based on seasonal items.”
