A beloved DC institution is preparing to introduce the District to its younger sibling. Popular Filipino restaurant, Hiraya, is opening a Union Market location called Little Hiraya later this year, reports local media outlet Axios D.C.
The stall will be open for breakfast through dinner at its new home in 1309 5th Street, NE. Owner Paolo Dungca says that Little Hiraya will tip its hat to Pogiboy, a concept he previously helmed. Future customers can look forward to enjoying authentic and delicious Filipino rice bowls. While a precise opening date is not currently available, Dungca is aiming for a November opening.
The Hiraya concept strives to bring an authentic and welcoming Filipino dining experience to DC. The company’s website states its purpose succinctly, saying: “Hiraya is a celebration of the beauty, history, and flavors of the Philippines. We are inspired by the dishes and ingredients of our ancestors, family and friends who have influenced our journeys, and the famously welcoming Filipino hospitality. We believe in bayanihan—loving our community and uplifting others—and seek to support our kapamilya as much as we can.”
